We have seen His Star

Standard

(Another of my old poems from the notebook. This one also appears to be a Christmas song. Unlike the others, I can’t remember the tune I wrote it to. I can sort of remember the chorus, but it doesn’t go with the way the verses want to be sung.)

Who can count the stars, like dust,
That seem to crowd the sky?
At night they form a milky way,
To lead the wanderer by.
When darkness falls across the lands,
The stars their glories show.
And those who wander on their way,
All their pathways know.

I’ve seen His star, and am come to worship.
Seen His star in the east.
I’ve seen His star, and am come to worship.
Hail to the Prince of Peace.

The poets claim to know the stars.
They claim their music hear.
And I have nightly watched the stars,
Till now they seem so near.
And I have seen a bright, new, star,
Shining oh so clear.
And I know it shines for a King,
Whose time is now near.

I’ve seen His star, and am come to worship.
Seen His star in the east.
I’ve seen His star, and am come to worship.
Hail to the Prince of Peace.

Long have we traveled for to find Him.
Long have we sought the King.
Far have we traveled for to seek Him,
And His praises bring.
Frankincense and myrrh have we brought
And gold to lay at His feet.
Long have we traveled Him to worship,
And so His kingdom greet.

We have seen His star, and are come to worship.
Seen His star in the east.
We have seen His star, and are come to worship.
Hail to the Prince of Peace.

So we traveled to Jerusalem,
And saw Herod the King.
And we told him who we were seeking,
He whose gifts we bring.
Herod the King was frightened to see us,
And sent us on our way.
For he knew the one we were seeking
Would take his throne away.

We have seen His star, and are come to worship.
Seen His star in the east.
We have seen His star, and are come to worship.
Hail to the Prince of Peace.

In Bethlehem we found Him there,
The star over His door.
He was a child, like any other,
And yet, He was so much more.
For He is the King of Glory,
King of Kings is He.
Rock of Ages, Wonderful Counselor,
And so shall He ever be.

We saw His star, and we went to worship.
Saw His star in the east.
We saw His star, and we went to worship.
Hail to the Prince of Peace.
